In Case You Missed It
Over the weekend one of my favorite artist released her a new album “Trip”. Literally taking fans on a drug induced Trip in the mind of Jhene Aiko. This album was literally more than a treat for fans with 22 songs, I have yet to listen to the album in its entirety. I’ve found myself playing back various songs over and over. Make no mistake about it the album is great thus far in my experience. If anything the first 19 songs are worth listening to without skipping a track.
Jhene has taken fans into her reality and her dealing with her brother’s death that occurred a few years ago. Depression, relationships and her estranged husband are topics of discussion. Nothing is left to the public to really wonder. On track number 11 “Never Call Me” featuring Kurupt , Jhene adamantly expressed to her estranged husband “Tell Your Lawyer I Ain’t Paying S**t”. At the end of the track Kurupt gives his thoughts on the situation assuring his little “sister” Jhene that she doesn’t have to trip over no “funny a** Ni**as”.
In search of healing
Aiko found love, peace and understanding through her life’s trials and tribulations. OLLA (Only Lovers Left Alive) fits perfect into her new found happiness and relationship. This past year you’ve spotted Jhene Aiko and Big Sean around looking happy as ever. After the release of Twenty88’s debut album Big Sean and Jhene came out as a couple. One of my absolute favorite tracks features Aiko’s daughter Namiko Love. It’s adorable and in a world of chaos I’m sure Nami is her balance.
