The Talk
Recently Proctor and Gamble the brand behind Cascade, Mr. Clean, Tide, Downy and Swiffer to name a few has caught some backlash on their new commercial “The Talk”. They’ve even been called racist and had to explain themselves to “HatefulTwitter”. *insert the most evil side eye*. Personally, I think that everyone should be watching this commercial! This is not racist in the least bit and I think that I am more angered that people are spewing hate towards this company that tactfully put together a commercial in such high regards to the Black community. If you don’t understand what is shown ask questions. I hate assumptions!!
What Do You Want?
“The Talk” commercial is a little over 2 minutes long. The commercial shows various scenes of black parents talking to their children in intimate settings. The commercial spans over generations, each generation conforming to the times. The children in each scene learns how the system works and all the odds stacked against them with all the racial injustice and racially motivated barriers that they will face in their life. My question to those social media monsters who hate when they are faced with the truth and another culture’s reality. WHAT DO YOU WANT?
“The Difference is you gotta work twice as hard and be twice as smart”
This ad is from Procter & Gamble’s “My Black is Beautiful” campaign with the hastag for social media #TalkAboutBias. In today’s society its so much easier to buff and polish over the truth then to talk about it! It’s like someone scrapes my all time favorite pair of shoes but buys me a new pair of shoes but they aren’t the same! The point is, its still happening and there is no amount of “Sorry” or shoulder shrugging that will bury the truth!
#TalkAboutBias The Real Conversation
While watching this commercial I teared up. The truth hurts and these conversations are real. I’ve heard them before and as I prepare to welcome another baby boy I am faced with the truth. These are conversations I will have to have with my boys. Conducting yourself, being better, loving yourself, and most of all how to walk of eggshells without becoming an injustice poster. Whether conscious or unconscious this isn’t going any where and I want Proctor & Gamble to stand by every word “THEY SAID WHAT THEY SAID”. Spark the conversation and dialogue. Motivate to try and change the truth we face.
The hashtage #BoyCottPG is a very interesting one! You will be angered!
P&G is selling nothing but truth serum wrapped in a heartbreaking two minute long video.
